Intuition develops specialist online course for UK Ministry of Defence
Intuition, a leading provider of technology-enabled learning services, has announced the addition of a further course on the Defence Learning Portal (DLP). The new Battlespace Spectrum Management (BSM) course is an important addition to the portal, which already provides secure and flexible access for all UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) personnel to a comprehensive catalogue of online training materials.
Intuition was commissioned to develop the new course by the Defence College of Communications and Information Systems (DCCIS) in response to the growing importance of the Electromagnetic Spectrum (ESM) as a communications and guidance resource in the context of modern military operations. The BSM plays a key role in managing this resource.
The Intuition course will be used as pre-course learning to prepare learners to attend an existing instructor-led course run by DCCIS. By providing personnel with a good working knowledge of the BSM’s role, the command and control context of its operations, and the principal CIS and communication systems, the e-learning materials will ensure that learners arrive on the instructor-led course with a common level of background understanding of the subject area.
The course design reflects the modern joint forces environment by including illustrative photography taken from current fields of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, thereby engaging the learner and ensuring the optimum transfer of knowledge. In addition, the course is SCORM 1.2 conformant, enabling easy integration with the DLP.
Captain Daisy Mundy, of DCCIS said, “We welcome Intuition’s development of the online Battlespace Spectrum Management course. Previously staff needed to attend an instructor-led course for 15 days, this has now been reduced to 10 days, and we are more confident that staff arriving on the instructor-led course will be up to a common level of background knowledge; thereby helping to reduce requirements for course re-sits. The on-demand nature of the e-learning service means that we can consider significantly enlarging the audience for this information.
The use of photography makes the course all the more engaging, and I look forward to seeing Battlespace Spectrum Manager being used by a growing number of personnel, who will undoubtedly benefit from the high quality training offered by this course.”
Brian O’Malley, General Manager Public Sector & Health at Intuition, said, “We are pleased to further consolidate our position as a key e-learning development partner to MoD through this new course. The MoD’s aim to raise the awareness and profile of e-learning as a strategic initiative is very much in line with our own vision of knowledge empowerment through technology, and we look forward to providing the organisation with further courses, supporting services and innovation into the future. We have no doubt that the cost-effective, convenient and compelling nature of the courses now available on the DLP will continue to increase the efficiency of UK defence forces now and in the future.”
Intuition has already developed and successfully deployed a number of e-learning courses on the DLP, including Computer Network Defence, Defence Document Handling Security and Basic IT Security.

Intuition launches new anti-money laundering course for the Singapore market
New course developed to help banks meet growing local compliance requirements
Intuition, the leading provider of financial markets education and knowledge services, has announced the launch of its new course on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) specifically for the Singapore market. The e-learning course will enable bank employees in the region to adhere to strict local regulations covering the detection and prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing. The launch of the course follows the opening of Intuition’s Singapore office in May 2007, a move aimed to help companies keep up with mounting demands for strategic employee learning and compliance adherence in the AsiaPac region.
As one of the world’s leading and fastest growing international money markets, Singapore takes a hard line on financial crime, with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the police’s Financial Investigation Division of the Commercial Affairs Department jointly responsible for combating and deterring money laundering. Intuition’s new course covers all of the regulations enforced by these two agencies and explains individual employees’ responsibilities for preventing and reporting illegal financing. It also discusses the prevailing trends in money laundering.
The course can also be customised to include financial organisations’ in-house procedures for preventing money laundering and can be completed online or by mobile device, enabling employees to complete the tutorial whilst on the move. All courses are fully trackable, allowing organisations to ensure their staff are always up-to-date with AML compliance requirements.
“We’re very pleased to offer our new Anti-Money Laundering course to help financial organisations in Singapore to combat the global problem of money laundering and terrorist financing,” said Simon Banks, managing director, Intuition Asia. “While it is crucial for organisations to keep up with ever-evolving legislation, employees are often strapped for time and meeting these strict demands can prove difficult. Online and mobile learning courses fit the bill perfectly – enabling busy employees to keep abreast of compliance developments without needing to take time out of the office.”
Intuition has already developed AML courses for the UK, US and Irish markets, all of which focus on specific regional regulations, and have been taken up by companies including BNP Paribas, Alpha Bank and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities.
The company also has a proven track record of delivering effective compliance e-learning solutions for organisations including the Bank for International Settlements, and the UK’s Financial Services Authority. Intuition continues to address local learning and legislative requirements and will be adding further solutions to its growing learning portfolio, in order to meet the needs of the Singapore market. Its current clients in the region include HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Credit Suisse and Barclays Capital.

Intuition’s current clients in the region include HSBC, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Standard Chartered Bank, Credit Suisse and Barclays Capital.
A rapidly growing number of international banks are expanding their Asia Pacific operations and opening business hubs in Singapore. In response to this, Intuition has opened its own Singapore office to help companies keep up with mounting demands for strategic employee learning.

“As strategic talent management continues to top surveys as a key business driver, in increasingly competitive globalized markets, financial institutions in Asia must ensure that their learning programmes are of the highest standard,” said David Harrison, chief executive of Intuition. “However, looking for a good local company, with a global perspective and experience to help with financial education and compliance requirements can prove tricky. Our expanded presence in Singapore will aim to fill this gap in the market and enable us to grow our business relationships with existing and future Asia-Pacific clients.”
Simon Banks will relocate from London to head up the Singapore office, which is located at 105 Cecil Street, #06-01 The Octagon.
“I am very excited at the prospect of building Intuition’s presence in Asia,” said Banks, global head of sales at Intuition. “There is no doubt that to retain employees, help them achieve their full potential and maximize the value they add to the company, it is vital for our clients to focus ongoing strategic learning and development.
“However, this can only happen by working with a partner who knows and understands the fundamental business requirements and HR ethos at that company. By working closely with our clients in Asia, we aim to help maximise their business success through cultivating their greatest assets – their employees.”

Back-to-back awards for Irish-designed Infection Control Education Programmes
Dublin, 25th April 2007 – Professional education specialist Intuition today announced that it has won its second prestigious award for its work with the NHS, this time on the National Infection Control Training Programme.
The award was presented to the company and the NHS at the annual Institute of IT Training (IITT) awards at a ceremony in London’s Dorchester Hotel. The project won a silver award in the ‘e-Learning Project of the Year’ category, which is presented to an enterprise that has carried out an e-learning project that demonstrates high quality and innovation – in terms of both content and instructional techniques – and that makes demonstrable performance improvement for the client.
Intuition’s work with the NHS was also recognised by the IITT judging panel with a silver award in the same category at the 2006 event for its work on the National Decontamination Training Programme. That programme is now in use throughout Northern Ireland and has been successfully piloted in several hospitals in the Republic of Ireland.
Intuition was established in 1985, initially supplying computer-based training to the financial markets. The company has since grown to become the leading provider of professional education services to a broad range of markets including financial services, healthcare, public sector and IT literacy.
The National Infection Control Training programme is designed to be relevant to all levels of staff – from cleaners and receptionists to nurses, doctors, managers and chief executives. Two versions of the programme are available, tailored to suit clinical and non-clinical staff. It was designed and developed on behalf of the Department of Health by Intuition in conjunction with the UK’s pre-eminent centre of excellence for Infection Control, the Richard Wells Research Centre at Thames Valley University. The NHS Core Learning Unit (CLU) – sponsor of the programme – has commented that numbers registered on the programme are running significantly ahead of projections. The programme is unique in that it gathers together for the first time all of the evidence-base in this sensitive area, providing an accessible and engaging learning experience for every worker in the NHS.
Commenting on the award win, David Harrison, chief executive of Intuition, said: “We are pleased that the judging panel of the IITT awards has recognised our work with the NHS on such a critical programme as the National Infection Control Training programme. This is the second education programme we have designed for the NHS in the area of decontamination and infection control policy, both of which are proving to be of significant importance in the fight against MRSA and other healthcare associated infections.”
The awards’ judging panel noted: “This innovative and extremely thorough work-based learning programme was the result of a synergistic partnership between the public and private sectors. Especially impressive were the content and the depth of the design, as well as the positive evidence of uptake from within the NHS; the subject matter – the control of infectious diseases – was treated in a highly engaging manner, and in a way that would ensure both comprehension and recall.”
